C&M Training Develop a Waste Industry Drivers Course for Albion Environmental Ltd

(Mar 2012)

C&M Training has developed a Waste Industry Drivers course for Albion
Environmental Ltd. The course has subsequently been approved by JAUPT (on
behalf of the Drivers Standards Agency) to act as 7 hours (1 day) towards
the new Drivers CPC scheme.

LGV drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK must complete 35
hours of “Periodic Training” every 5 years which is known as
Drivers CPC. The aim of this “Periodic Training” is to improve
the safety and efficiency of professional drivers. Training sessions must
last for a minimum of 7 hours (1 day) meaning drivers need to complete 5
x 7 hour sessions (days) of training every 5 years.

Albion
Environmental had identified a lack of waste industry specific training
for drivers and commissioned C&M Training to develop a classroom based
course which would include the following topics:

  • Introduction & overview of waste and the industry
  • An overview of the legislation affecting drivers transporting waste
(Duty of Care, Waste Carriers regulations etc)
  • The legal requirements of placing skips on the public highway
  • How to use the European Waste Catalogue/List of Wastes to classify
    waste loads
  • How to complete Waste Transfer Notes correctly

The course will ensure that drivers can operate efficiently and legally
in the complex and highly regulated waste sector.
