C&M Training’s lead assessor (Craig Chandler) has been involved in a recent trial organised by Albion Environmental Ltd for the delivery of the Level 4 Diploma in Facilities Management (FMP4) to service personnel.
With the recent government cutbacks, many highly skilled service personnel are looking for employment within the civilian workplace but face the issue of not having their skills and qualifications recognised by the civilian work sector.
Many service personnel working within Quartermasters’ posts have the ideal skillset and knowledge to work within the growing market of Facilities Management and a trial was commenced to match these against the national standards.
As part of the Trial, Craig (who has previous experience working within the army system) began the mapping process of matching the standards of the British Armies, All Arms RQMS course against the national standards found in the QCF Level 4 Diploma in Facilities Management Practice (awarded by WAMITAB).
The process identified areas that would allow candidates that had passed the RQMS course to use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when undertaking the civilian Diploma, thereby reducing the time to achieve the qualification and bringing the price down to the individual.
The initial trial was funded by Albion Environmental Ltd and involved 2 serving Warrant Officers Class 2 (WO2) who had passed the RQMS course and were serving in suitable posts.
The first successful candidate WO2 William Robertson RLC (formally RHF) received his Diploma in a ceremony held at the offices of Albion Environmental in Ayr.
Craig looks on as successful candidate; WO2 W Robertson receives his Diploma in Facilities Management Practice from Albion Environmental Ltd’s Alasdair Meldrum at a ceremony in Ayr.
WO2 Robertson said:
“After completing two years as an RQMS in the British Army, it was extremely gratifying to have successfully completed a recognised award in Facilities Management. The process was very straight forward as the assessor Craig had previously served in the Armed Forces and quickly identified which of my Army qualifications could be used to claim Previous Learning (RPL) to units within the award. With my other qualifications in management etc, I am now able to apply to the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) at Certified Level in recognition of my experience and qualifications gained over many years in the military”.
