C&M Training deliver SQA Training Qualification for Glasgow Prestwick Airport Fire Service

C&M Training has successfully delivered an SQA accredited Train the Trainers course which incorporated the new HN Unit (HE0T33) “Planning & Delivering Training Sessions to Groups” for the Airport Fire Service at Prestwick International Airport.

The course was organised in response to a request by Andrew McCrindle (Station Commander) as professional development for his “in house” training staff whilst giving them a recognised national training qualification that would recognise their skills and knowledge.

The course was delivered & assessed by Craig Chandler (C&M Training’s Senior Trainer) over a two week period and all of the delegates passed with flying colours.

C&M Training Award First SVQ Level 4 in Health & Safety

C&M Training has awarded its first SVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice to William Robertson (H&S Advisor for Bam Nuttall).

C&M Training Gain Approval to Deliver Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ’s) in Occupational Health & Safety

We are pleased to announce that we are now accredited by SQA to deliver:

 

  • The SVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety which is a vocational (workplace assessed) qualification in implementing and supervising H&S in the workplace. It is a level 3 qualification (which sits at level 7 on the SCQF) and is broadly equivalent to the NEBOSH National General Certificate.

 

  • The SVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice which is a vocational (workplace assessed) qualification in managing H&S in the workplace. It is a level 4 qualification (which sits at level 9 on the SCQF) and is broadly equivalent to the NEBOSH Diploma.

C&M Training Welcomes New Trainer

C&M Training has great pleasure in welcoming Davie Fraser, the newest member to our Training Team.  Davie joins us after a long and distinguished career in HM Forces where he initially trained and qualified as an Electrical & Electronics Engineer, before diversifying into training and development and then into the Logistics and Facilities Management career fields.

Davie left the Army in 2013 as a Senior HR Officer and has significant experience in soft “people skills”.  He also held a number of Senior Quartermaster (Facilities Management) positions and was an expert in the field of Contracts Liaison.

Davie is also an accomplished trainer, having spent many years as an advanced military training instructor and trainer, skills which he is already adapting and offering to our clients throughout industry.  A creative, enthusiastic and inspired trainer, he is certainly changing attitudes out there and our clients love him!

C&M Training Assist Albion Environmental to Deliver Modern Apprenticeships

C&M Training recently assisted Albion Environmental Ltd (a local training provider based in Ayr) to deliver Modern Apprenticeships in Sustainable Resource Management.

Modern Apprentices from South Ayrshire Council, North Ayrshire Council and West Dunbartonshire Council who are working towards gaining their Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management recently attended a Waste Management Legislation Course in Ayr.

This course was developed and delivered by C&M Training and is jointly certificated by Albion Environmental Ltd and The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS). The course was designed to provide underpinning knowledge to the skills the Apprentices have been developing during their council employment.

With the continued support of Skills Development Scotland and the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme, young people can gain valuable employment experience whilst gaining nationally recognised qualifications.

Councillor John Hampton, Youth Champion for South Ayrshire Council said: “Through their participation in this programme each of the young people will gain a recognised qualification which is something that they can build on in the future. The practical experience that they will gain is invaluable and will help them to develop their personal skills.”

C&M Training Gain Approval to Deliver SQA’s Assessor and Internal Verifiers Qualifications

C&M Training gained SQA “Approved Centre” Status in April 2014. The initial approval was to deliver SQA’s HN Unit “Planning & Delivering Learning Sessions to Groups” (F81 Y33).

 

After successfully delivering this qualification to a number of individuals and organisations, a decision was made to expand our Learning and Development portfolio to include SQA’s Assessor and Internal Verifiers Qualifications.

 

We are pleased to announce that we are now accredited by SQA to deliver:

 

  • The Assessors Qualification – SQA’s HN Unit H290 35 “Conduct the Assessment Process”

 

  • The qualification is designed for those who are assessing learners in a classroom or other off-job training environment such as training centres and workshops (such as assessing First Aid qualifications etc) and is suitable for those who are involved in learning/teaching and/or the assessment process and wish to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

 

  • The unit has been aligned to the current National Occupational Standards (NOS) in assessment, L&D9 “Assess Learner Achievement” (whilst omitting the requirement for assessment to take place in the workplace).

 

 

  • The Internal Verifiers Qualification – SQA’s HN Unit H291 35 “Conduct the Internal Verification Process”

 

  • The qualification is designed for those who are Internally Verifying the assessment process and practice in a classroom or other off-job training environment such as in training centres and workshops and is suitable for those who are involved in the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and/or Verification (IV) of the assessment process and wish to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

 

  • The unit has been aligned to the current National Occupational Standards (NOS) in Internal Verification, L&D11 “Internally Monitor and Maintain the Quality of Assessment” (whilst omitting the requirement for the assessment process to have taken place in the workplace).

C&M Training aid delivery of Diploma in Facilities Management

C&M Training’s lead assessor (Craig Chandler) has been involved in a recent trial organised by Albion Environmental Ltd for the delivery of the Level 4 Diploma in Facilities Management (FMP4) to service personnel.


With the recent government cutbacks, many highly skilled service personnel are looking for employment within the civilian workplace but face the issue of not having their skills and qualifications recognised by the civilian work sector.


Many service personnel working within Quartermasters’ posts have the ideal skillset and knowledge to work within the growing market of Facilities Management and a trial was commenced to match these against the national standards.


As part of the Trial, Craig (who has previous experience working within the army system) began the mapping process of matching the standards of the British Armies, All Arms RQMS course against the national standards found in the QCF Level 4 Diploma in Facilities Management Practice (awarded by WAMITAB).


The process identified areas that would allow candidates that had passed the RQMS course to use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when undertaking the civilian Diploma, thereby reducing the time to achieve the qualification and bringing the price down to the individual.


The initial trial was funded by Albion Environmental Ltd and involved 2 serving Warrant Officers Class 2 (WO2) who had passed the RQMS course and were serving in suitable posts.


The first successful candidate WO2 William Robertson RLC (formally RHF) received his Diploma in a ceremony held at the offices of Albion Environmental in Ayr.

WO2 Robertson said:

 

“After completing two years as an RQMS in the British Army, it was extremely gratifying to have successfully completed a recognised award in Facilities Management.  The process was very straight forward as the assessor Craig had previously served in the Armed Forces and quickly identified which of my Army qualifications could be used to claim Previous Learning (RPL) to units within the award.  With my other qualifications in management etc, I am now able to apply to the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) at Certified Level in recognition of my experience and qualifications gained over many years in the military”.

C&M Training’s lead consultant completes SVQ Level 5 Qualification in Learning and Development

Craig Chandler, C&M Training’s lead consultant has successfully completed an SVQ Level 5 qualification in Learning & Development.

The level 5 SVQ in Learning and Development is a workplace assessed qualification which sits at level 11 on the SQCF and level 7 on the QCF frameworks (roughly equivalent to a Masters Degree). To achieve the qualification, candidates must prove their competence in managing learning and development. Craig took 2 years to complete the award which recognises his skill and experience in the field of Training.

The qualification was delivered through “Drumbeat” a training organisation that specialises in the delivery of Learning and development programs.

C&M Training recently delivered an SQA accredited Basic Instructional Techniques course (which incorporated the HN Unit “Planning & Delivering Learning Sessions to Groups”) at Prestwick International Airport.

The course was organised in response to a request by Prestwick Airports Engineering Manager, Steve Thompson who needed a number of airport staff trained and qualified to deliver “in house” training in a number of different disciplines.

The course was delivered & assessed by Craig Chandler (C&M Training’s senior Trainer) over a two week period and all of the delegates passed with flying colours.
